The huge demand of new energy market is attracting the global lithium manufacturers to accelerate their landing in India. Aeppl, a joint venture between Suzuki, Toshiba and PowerPack, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of India's Gujarat State, foreign media reported. Aeppl plans to invest inr49.3 billion (US $689.7 million) to build a lithium-ion battery plant in hansarbur, Ahmedabad region of the state. Aeppl was founded in 2017, with Suzuki, Toshiba and Nippon electric holding 50%, 40% and 10%, respectively, and plans to produce lithium-ion batteries in India. The signing of the agreement marks the official implementation of the company's plant construction plan in India, which helps Japanese enterprises such as Suzuki, Toshiba and Denso to explore the lithium battery market in India, and also helps India realize "made in India" in lithium battery. Since India started from the electrification of two wheelers / three wheelers and gradually realized the comprehensive replacement of passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, the world's leading lithium-ion battery manufacturers hope to test the potential of the Indian market by assembling lithium-ion battery modules in India. At present, including Panasonic, LG Chemical, Samsung SDI, Toshiba, octillion in the United States, leclanch é in Switzerland, star power and other Chinese, Japanese, Korean and European and American lithium battery enterprises, all announced that they would establish joint ventures with local enterprises in India to build lithium battery assembly plants. The above battery companies take the lead in targeting the Indian electric two wheel / three wheel vehicle, consumer electronics and energy storage market, and will extend to the Indian electric vehicle market later. It is worth noting that due to the late layout of new energy electrification in India, there are no local enterprises that can really produce lithium-ion batteries in China at present. At present, 100% of lithium batteries used in India are dependent on, so the Indian government hopes to change this situation through "made in India". To this end, the Indian government has formulated plans for the establishment of large-scale local lithium battery plants, and formulated corresponding plans to encourage Indian manufacturing. The Indian government plans to invest $4 billion to build at least four battery factories in India to produce lithium batteries in the country. Plans to build giant lithium battery plants are being led by NiTi ayaog, a federal policy think tank. According to the conservative scenario envisaged by NiTi ayaog, by 2025, India will need 6 battery plants with a scale of 10gwh, and 12 battery plants may be needed by 2030. In January this year, the libcoin consortium, Magnus Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Bharat Heavy Electrical Co., Ltd. of India reached an agreement with the government, heavy industry sector and public enterprise sector of India to build the first lithium-ion battery super plant in India. In March, India's Andhra Pradesh signed two memorandums of understanding worth 34 billion rupees (3.26 billion yuan) on lithium-ion batteries and battery manufacturing projects. Recently, Tata chemical, a subsidiary of Tata Group, announced that it would invest 400 billion rupees to build a 10gwh lithium-ion battery plant in dholera special investment zone (dsir) in Gujarat. Tata chemical has acquired 126 acres of land for the project to manufacture lithium-ion batteries.
