According to foreign media reports, cepton technologies has established a cooperative relationship with mechaspin, a developer of industrial perception and machine learning system, to build a solution based on lidar, which can classify vehicles in 3D in real time and in detail for automatic road toll collection system. The cooperation, which combines lidar technology and data analysis technology, can change the application of road pricing and benefit both service providers and drivers. (photo source: cepton technologies) the solution combines cepton's sora-p60 lidar and mechaspin's MSX software, which can analyze and classify the vehicles on the highway in real time under various weather and light conditions. "The road toll industry lacks a complete end-to-end solution to deploy a 3D lidar for vehicle classification and tracking, and we combine cepton's lidar technology with mechaspin's MSX processing engine to provide a powerful solution for toll systems, multimodal transport and other traffic industry applications," the partners said The traditional road toll system often relies on physical infrastructure to reduce the speed of the vehicle, or on toll stations to collect fees manually, which may cause traffic jams and make drivers fidgety. However, the advanced charging system which can accelerate the speed often has the risk of leakage (information), and the roadside sensors often fail due to wear. The solution of cepton and mechaspin does not need physical infrastructure, but can provide accurate data such as vehicle speed, size and axle number, and the data format can be integrated with other sensors, data acquisition and billing systems. The hardware can be installed in the air, and contains the smallest size of mobile parts, reducing the possibility of failure. Cepton said that its sora-p60 lidar uses micro motion technology, which is different from the traditional beam control technology used in rotating lidar and MEMS. On the contrary, cepton's MMT architecture realizes a mirror free, friction free and rotation free system, which can improve the durability of the product and realize accurate 3D sensing.
