It is learnt that the automobile factory in Ulsan will use BASF Elastoflex elastomeric polyurethane foam material (PU) to produce car seats. Compared with traditional foam plastics, BASF Elastoflex is a low VOC (volatile organic compound) solution, and has better comfort, elasticity and load carrying capacity. It is mainly used in car seat and headrest parts. In order to meet more stringent carbon emission regulations, BASF also optimized its polyol production process. After optimization of production process, BASF can produce special polyols with low cost and VOC emission. Low VOC, low odor automotive interior materials are urgently needed in the market. Due to the narrow interior space and slow air circulation, such as carcinogenic toluene, xylene, formaldehyde and so on, the VOC concentration in the car is easy to exceed the standard. This will lead to fatigue, dizziness and other poisoning symptoms. VOC can be said to be an invisible killer, threatening health at all times. According to the test results of SGS Korea, BASF's new solution reduces acetaldehyde and formaldehyde emissions by more than 30%, which helps to improve the air quality in the car and improve the health of the car drivers. The field test also shows that the newly developed polyurethane has good fluidity in the processing process, so the productivity of the production line is increased and the defect rate of the product is reduced. In addition, Hyundai plans to use the material for the roof and steering wheel. "To meet the growing demand for low VOC solutions in the automotive industry, BASF has also expanded its polyol capacity in Weishan by 13000 tons," said Bao Leiwei, senior vice president of Asia Pacific region of BASF specialty materials. The increase of production capacity guarantees the product supply of Hyundai and BASF's other important customers in South Korea and overseas. "
