On October 15, U.S. electric vehicles and manufacturers said on Tuesday that the company will launch its Powerwall home energy storage battery product in Japan next spring, marking the first appearance of the product in Asia. The 13.5-kilowatt-hour wall can store energy generated by solar panels at a cost of 990000 yen ($9135), including a back-up gateway system to manage grid connections, but excluding installation costs and retail taxes. The product will be sold by Tesla directly online or installed by some third-party companies. A spokesman for the company said it had been taking orders from Japanese customers online since 2016, but had not announced when the installation would begin. "Tesla believes the Japanese home battery market has huge growth potential," said Shinji ASAKURA, Japan's national energy products manager. He pointed out that the "electricity price" that guarantees the minimum price for solar energy development will expire later this year. He said demand for backup power also provided growth potential during blackouts caused by natural disasters. It is reported that since its launch in 2015, Tesla has installed Powerwall systems in about 50000 locations in seven countries.
